JAM PACKED SHOW WEEKEND!!

Two Shows this weekend!!!
Come join me, and many others for art, alcohol, and some pancakes!!!
First show of the weekend is entitled Pancakes & Booze.

As you can see from both the title and the flyer, there will be both Pancakes, and Booze. BUT not just that! The show goes from 7pm-2am, and will feature live nude body painting, a performance by Alligator Dave, and lots of art, including my photographs!! Come for a wildly fun time...

Now we move on to Saturday...
Saturday I will also be in a show at the Drkrm Gallery called "The Last Picture Show."

This event is a bit more classy, but no less fun. The show includes many interesting Los Angeles photographers, and the opening reception is from 7-10pm. There is complimentary valet parking as well as drinks and snacks.

So if you're looking for something to do in LA this weekend, I am giving you not one, but TWO options. Hope to see you all there!

Lauren Jack: In the Age of Plastic
September 1st-October 4th 2009

Opening Reception, Friday, September 11th 7-11pm

Please join me for the first LA opening for my body of work In the Age of Plastic. Along with the artwork on display, there will also be a live hair show during the opening, interpreting the plastic usage in the photographs. A live DJ will be playing, and drinks and food will be served.

"How will future generations throughout time remember us in history? How do we remember past historic moments and figures? We are the Age of Plastic, represented by something that is truly genius and yet brittle and without character. What does the term “plastic” mean and say about our society? What associations do we make when confronted by the term ‘plastic’? By exploring different representations of historic imagery, and reinterpreting them, my goal is to show what exactly it means to be labeled as an age or era. By adding elements of plastic into my work, I wanted to reinterpret history by projecting our own age onto it. Plastic itself is a representation of the detachment today's society has from nature and from the cultural environments that we have created and then fell from. By creating and photographing historical periods with the use of plastic I am trying to show that separation as well as explore our views of historic representation."

Not much happening, but I'll update anyways

So I feel a bit like a vagabond currently, because I haven't stayed anywhere for longer than 6 days. It has been lovely mostly, but tiring, and it wont stop. Well, maybe it will a bit. Tuesday I am moving to San Francisco for the summer, so as to plan some shows, and apply for jobs. Also it will be a nice time to just veg a little bit.
I think I will be driving cross country much sooner than planned, so as to have some prints to potentially show. This will be quite the endeavor since I have no idea as to the proper way to drive a 10x10 foot truck. If anyone has any tips, they would be much appreciated. More on that later.
Anyway, like I said, a lot happening, but maybe not much that you would like to ready about. Hopefully there will be more suitable blogging info soon.
Adieu to you,
Lauren

I don't know why I made a blog...

What exactly does one Blog about? A life in Los Angeles I presume... We will see how this pans out.
